Given what you said about pressures on water resources, with which I have much sympathy, will you share my amazement that the Secretary of State, when directing Bromley Council in relation to their UDP, directed them to remove a policy which would have strengthened the degree to which lack of water resource should be taken into account when determining development applications? Does that not fly in the face of what you have been saying? Will you condemn what the Secretary of State has done?

There ought to be cross-party support for that, but pursuing the Ofwat point, can I ask you to write to them, or whatever engagement mechanism is appropriate, to specifically request them to review the charging formula so that Thames Water's profits come down and they spend more on pipe renewal?

I am glad to hear that you agree that the interceptor tunnel is absolutely necessary, and I hope you will use all your resources to persuade the government to put up the money ' something like £90-100 million. It is very, very expensive, but it is much needed. Would you not think that the Government is being a bit easy on Thames Water to give them a target of 2% reduction in their leakage over the next 5-6 years, which is extremely, extremely low considering they have 30% leakage at this present time?
