Equipping Young People for the Future and Preventing Violence

Time for Action, published in November 2008, set out the Mayor’s vision for a programme of action for Equipping Young People for the Future and Preventing Violence. The proposals were intended to complement work being done by other agencies, in particular London boroughs that have lead responsibilities for children’s services, and to focus on the value the Mayor can add on these issues.

Project Daedalus, a key part of Time for Action, will help to deliver the Government's £100 million Youth Crime Action Plan. The establishment of the Heron Unit has been delivered through the London Criminal Justice Board (CJB), a partnership which brings together criminal justice agencies in London and the Mayor's office.

We are delighted that since the Mayor’s vision was published we have heard from so many of you. We have been busy working with partner organisations since the launch of the original document to take forward the individual workstreams within the vision. You can download the September 2009 update below to learn more about our progress:

You can download the original call to partners, which invited feedback on the Mayor's proposals to improve youth opportunities and prevent violence. The Mayor sought views through a variety of channels, including targeted online questionnaires, workshops, and events such as the London Schools and Black Child Conference and the African Diaspora Conference both in February 2009.

Response to consultation

The Mayor received almost 600 responses, representing views from a range of London residents, community organisations, practitioners, the voluntary sector, and the statutory sector.
