Mayoral statement on the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings
The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said:
“Today as we mark the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings, we remember and pay tribute to those who stepped up and put their lives on the line to fight for our country.
“Their incredible strength, courage and dedication helped to preserve our democratic freedoms and all we hold dear as a nation.
“It is our duty to never forget the sacrifices made by the generations who came before us and honour them by striving to live our lives with the same sense of service and duty.
“At the same time, this major anniversary of D-Day is another important opportunity for all of us to reflect on and ensure we learn all the lessons from one of the darkest periods in modern history.”
