Mayor announces London’s Diwali on the Square celebrations
The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has today announced that Diwali on the Square will take place in Trafalgar Square on Sunday 12 October.
The free, family-friendly event will run from 2pm to 8pm, bringing Londoners and visitors together to celebrate the Festival of Lights in the heart of the capital.
The celebration will begin with 200 dancers performing in the centre of Trafalgar Square, followed by an exciting line-up of performances from London’s Hindu, Sikh and Jain communities.
On the main stage, Londoners and visitors can look forward to live music, modern and classical dance, diya lighting, a retelling of the Diwali story by Aaya Anand Chaaya Anand, Bollywood Bhangra and much more.
There will also be a wide range of free, family-friendly activities including sari and turban tying, yoga and meditation, henna, puppet shows and dance workshops.
Vegan and vegetarian food will be on offer throughout the day, with market stalls serving traditional and fusion cuisine.
Delivered in partnership with the volunteer-led Diwali in London committee, Diwali On The Square is supported by headline partner Remitly, with associate partners Lidl, and Daawat.
