FOI - Policing and private parking [Feb 2023]

Key information

Request reference number: MGLA020223-9015

Date of response:

Summary of request

Your request

Under the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act 2000, the ICO Guidelines & the Nolan Principles, please provide your documented policy in allowing Police and support staff to park their ‘private’ vehicles in secure police compounds located in Ultra Low Emission Zones, where this attracts a notifiable taxable benefit in kind and an affront to the taxpaying public who are restricted by ULEZ regulation to which the police appear to be exempt.

Our response

Police officers using private vehicles are not exempt from paying the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) charge if they use a non-compliant vehicle to drive within the zone.

While the GLA and the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) are closely linked, they are separate Public Authorities for the purposes of The Freedom of Information Act 2000, as per schedule 1 of the Act, so you may wish to send your request to MOPAC at [email protected] and/or http://www.met.police.uk/foiai/accessing-information/.
