EIR - 20 mph speed limits [Oct 2023]

Key information

Request reference number: MGLA210923-6921

Date of response:

Summary of request

Your request

Millions of pounds have been spent to change the speed limit on London roads to 20 mph. I would like to know how much funding has been diverted from other areas of the transport budget to pay for the rollout of 20 mph speed limits in London. If possible, please list the other areas and a breakdown of funds taken from those areas to pay for it.

Our response

The Greater London Authority (GLA) is London's strategic government and does not operate in the same way as local authorities, who are responsible for most road traffic enforcement in London. The contact details for the London Borough councils are available here: https://directory.londoncouncils.gov.uk/

Transport for London TfL is the Mayor's transport authority and is responsible for implementing the Mayor's Transport Strategy, and for the day-to-day operational running of transport services in London including about 5% of London's roads. You may wish to send a further request to TfL at [email protected]
