Announced today, Transport for London is set to run a 12-month pilot exploring how its cleaning services could be brought in-house, with around 250 cleaners seconded to TfL across selected Tube and bus stations, Victoria Coach Station and other TfL sites.

Caroline Russell, Green Party London Assembly Member said:

“There is no justification for keeping cleaners outsourced to a private contractor when they are part of the TfL family and deserve the same terms and conditions as directly employed staff.

"I look forward to seeing the outcome of the Mayor’s pilot, which must end with the logical conclusion of bringing cleaners back in house where they belong.

“Everyone deserves decent employment rights, including a pension, maternity and sick pay. Direct employment by TfL is the only way to guarantee this for the cleaners who help keep our transport network running.”
