The Mayor responded to the Migration Advisory Committee’s call for evidence on the impacts of international students in the UK. In his submission, the Mayor presents clear evidence on the economic value of international students to London – both direct (for example, fees) and indirect (for example, supply of talent and FDI). He also outlines the importance of international students to London’s global reputation and to the UK’s soft power influence.
The Mayor makes clear that the future success of London and UK’s international education sector cannot be taken for granted. He has called on the Government to adopt a more ambitious, strategic approach to this important export and for a more supportive policy framework, including clearer post-study work opportunities.
