The London Assembly Housing Committee will meet tomorrow to discuss health and safety issues facing social housing tenants and what the Mayor is doing to address this issue.
Damp and mould continue to pose significant risk to Londoners living in social housing despite evidence proving that the tragic death of Awaab Ishak in Rochdale in 2020 was caused by exposure to mould in his home.
Last year, the Housing Ombudsman released a report based on an investigation into 142 landlords of varying sizes, which found 92 to have had complaints made against them for maladministration. Of all damp and mould cases found in the investigation, 57% were located in London [1].
Prominent social housing campaigner, Kwajo Tweneboa, has continued to raise the issue of social housing quality and will be joining the meeting to provide information on his experiences of working with social housing tenants and landlords.
Despite commitments from Government and the housing sector to improve the quality of social housing stock in the aftermath of the Grenfell fire, there remain a series of issues with the existing stock.
