How many night clubs have closed down in London since you came to power?
London’s nightclubs were first captured in the 2019 Cultural Infrastructure Map under the broader music category, meaning they were not distinctly identified at that time. A dedicated nightclub category was only introduced in 2023, defining these venues as late-night spaces closing after midnight and centred on music, dancing and entertainment, with data compiled by Nordicity using sources from Music Venue Trust, CGA Strategy (now NIQ Strategy) and Resident Advisor. Because this categorisation is relatively new and earlier mapping did not distinguish nightclubs from other music venues, we do not hold accurate or consistent data on the number of nightclubs that have opened or closed in London since the current Mayor came to power. -

The GLA does not maintain a nightclub office or an entertainment office. Its achievements include supporting hundreds of night-time businesses, publishing world-leading research, and shaping policies that safeguard London’s nightlife for the future.
