Fei Fei Li: A Monument of Success
Description:
I made this ceramic piece to celebrate a computer scientist known for her work in artificial intelligence and computer vision. Her research in deep learning helps machines understand images like humans. Born in Chengdu, China, she moved to the USA at 15, showing great courage at a young age. Her achievements in AI have inspired many. I used slab techniques for the jar’s walls and coiling for the base. I also added a circuit board to the side of the jar to represent her passion for technology and her groundbreaking contributions to the field of AI.

Malala Yousoufazi
Description:
I chose Malala Yousafzai to celebrate my piece because she’s an inspirational woman who took a stand to advocate for equality, human rights and education. Throughout my clay piece I’ve strung her credence. In continuance my beliefs align with hers, encouraging me to take a stand however small it may be. I was moved by her intentions, therefore wrote the following in her honour, ‘You can be the change however innominate or impotent you feel because when no one else takes a stand, and your voice is unheard what was the purpose of ever living.’

A Voice Unbroken.
Description:
This piece celebrates Amy Winehouse, one of the most iconic and influential singers of her generation. Known for her powerful voice, unique style, and deeply personal lyrics, Amy broke boundaries in music and left a lasting legacy. I chose to honor her because she inspires people through her creativity and individuality, despite the challenges she faced in her life. To make this piece, I sculpted her face and signature beehive hairstyle onto a clay tile, adding details like hairspray and a microphone to symbolize her love for music and her bold personality.

The Canine who went to space
Description:
The canine who went to space is a sculpture that honours Laika and the sacrifices she made that overall helped with space technology today. I used the slab technique to build the pot and then added more clay to carve into a spaceship to represent her. I used sgraffito to carve a portrait of her into the clay.
