The impacts of living in a cold and damp home reach far beyond immediate discomfort. The long-term health and well-being of residents can be significantly affected.
Mould and dust mites can trigger respiratory problems, while fuel poverty can lead to anxiety and depression, with some people forced to choose between keeping warm and eating.
The London Assembly Environment Committee will tomorrow explore the issue of cold, damp and mouldy homes in London to understand if energy efficiency programmes, including those offered by the Mayor, are making a meaningful difference to Londoners’ lives.
The following guests will attend:
- Bill Wright, Sustainability Consultant, Sustainable Homes
- Peter Rickaby, Sustainability Consultant and Chair, BSI Retrofit Standards Task Group
- Liz Blackwell, Energy Manager, L&Q Energy
- George Simms, Principal Policy and Programme Officer (Warmer Homes), GLA
- Ben Coombes, Programme Manager – Energy (RE:FIT), GLA
The meeting will take place on Thursday 6 December at 2.30pm in The Chamber, at City Hall (The Queen’s Walk, London SE1).
Media and members of the public are invited to attend.
The meeting can also be viewed via webcast or on our YouTube channel.
