How would the GLA fund Adult Education?

The Adult Education Budget funds help provide people with the skills they need to enter the labour market, progress in work or for other learning. [1]

The Department for Education is planning to devolve the budget from the Education and Skills Funding Agency to the Greater London Authority (GLA). [2]

The London Assembly is being formally consulted on the devolution proposal. In late March 2018, the secretary of state will confirm whether they are content to proceed with the devolution agreement.

At a meeting of the Education Panel tomorrow, the practical implications of the devolution of the Adult Education Budget to the GLA will be discussed including:

  • how the GLA will manage this budget, the objectives and priorities for the allocation of the funding
  • any risks and opportunities that might arise for the adult education sector and for Londoners

The meeting will take place on Thursday 8 February at 2:30pm in Committee Room 5 at City Hall (The Queen’s Walk, London SE1).
