Londoners need not-for-profit energy rival to 'big six' rip offs

Big six price hikes have been accused of ‘milking’ customers by the energy secretary but he admitted he can’t affect prices directly, Caroline Russell AM is again calling for the Mayor to get going with an energy company for London.

Despite the Business and Energy Secretary Greg Clark promising to take ‘muscular and strong’ action against ‘damaging’ price rises by most of the big six companies, he has limited powers to challenge prices. [1]

Caroline Russell AM wrote to the Mayor of London urging him to set up a fully-licensed energy supply company focussed on providing fair tariffs, freeing Londoners from fuel poverty and boosting clean energy. [2]

Caroline Russell said:

Price hikes will force more Londoners into fuel poverty, 11 per cent of people in our city already suffer this – no one should be forced to choose between being warm and comfortable and other basic necessities. [3]

We need a trusted not-for-profit Mayoral energy company to protect us from the annual big six rip-off energy price hikes and offer clean energy to Londoners.

Bringing in a serious competitor, for the benefit of Londoners instead of shareholder profits, will force the big energy companies to bring down their extortionate prices.
