News from Caroline Russell: Caroline welcomes decisive moves by Mayor to protect all road users

Created on
30 September 2016

Caroline Russell, Green Assembly Member, has welcomed news that the Mayor of London will introduce a rating system from zero to five stars for heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) based on the level of vision the driver has from the cab.

Caroline Russell commented:

“Making sure lorry drivers can see the people walking and cycling in the street alongside them is crucial for safety. It also means the lorry drivers have suitable vehicles for city street conditions and are protected from some of the risk of killing or seriously injuring Londoners getting about the city.

“Lorry drivers are currently driving through city in unsuitable vehicles. It’s unfair on the drivers as well as pedestrians. This is better for everyone.”

“Sadiq Khan is right to take an evidence-based approach towards ending the misery of unnecessary death and injury on our roads."
