The Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) came into effect 6 months ago. Today, the Mayor released statistics on London’s pollution levels following the introduction of the ULEZ.
In response, Caroline Russell AM, Chair of the London Assembly Environment Committee, said:
“It’s clear from the figures released today that the ULEZ is working. We welcome the reduction of roadside nitrogen dioxide pollution and the reports that 13,500 fewer polluting cars are driving through central London every month.
“However, while it’s encouraging to see the ULEZ is cleaning up London’s air, there’s still so much more work to be done. The levels of NO2 in Central London are still well above the legal limit. This is not good enough. Londoners must be protected from the high-levels of pollution in the capital.
“The London Assembly Environment Committee will continue to monitor the progress of the ULEZ as it develops and call on the Mayor to expand the ULEZ faster to clean up London’s air.”
