I have been asked to ask you the following question by a constituent. In 2009, a Transport Committee investigation found that in areas where 20 mph has been introduced in London there has been a 42% reduction in casualties, and that 20 mph limits offer the potential to increase levels of walking and cycling. A national survey carried out by Sustrans in February 2012 showed that 70% of the public want residential speed limits to be dropped to 20 miles per hour to make their streets safer.
