  • Meeting date: 21 November 2012
The upcoming Euro VI (strictly not Euro 6 as that's for cars and vans) emission standards will be in force in 2013/14 & will cover all new UK buses. The new Euro VI exhaust treatment systems require a great deal of engineering input & also more space on the vehicle. Has the New Bus for London design allowed for these changes? If not, why not and who will pick up the bill for this further re-engineering work?

Will you also confirm that the official legal capacity of the bus is 79 (63 seated, 15 standing & 1 wheelchair), which is far short of average of 85 carried on a normal double decker?

Guardrail Removal

  • Reference: 2012/3448
  • Question by: Darren Johnson
  • Meeting date: 21 November 2012
I have seen evidence published by Transport for London (TfL) last year that casualties had dropped at 80% of sites where guardrail had been removed and TfL were investigating the 20% of sites where they had increased. Can you tell me the results of that investigation? Can you also update the figures on casualty reduction, or increase, where guardrail has been removed?
