Regarding the Metropolitan Police’s ban on officers wearing the ‘Thin Blue Line’ badge as a tribute to colleagues killed in the line of duty, how would you respond to Metropolitan Police Federation Chairman Rick Prior’s comments that: “Officers will be extremely saddened and angry to hear this news. The families of officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice to keep the public safe will be equally dismayed. I urge the Commissioner to urgently reconsider this decision.”

Many of London’s streets are blighted by litter and graffiti, suggesting an increased level of disrespect by some people for their communities. What support can the GLA offer to local authorities and other stakeholders to help improve standards of cleanliness on London’s streets?

TfL Staff Safety

  • Reference: 2024/3195
  • Question by: Alex Wilson
  • Meeting date: 10 October 2024
Several staff I have spoken to at Tube stations have said they feel unsafe at work due to an alarming increase of crime and antisocial behaviour. Are you aware of particular ‘hotspots’ where the most serious offences occur, and what are you doing to improve staff safety across the network?

London Taxis

  • Reference: 2024/3194
  • Question by: Alex Wilson
  • Meeting date: 10 October 2024
According to taxi drivers’ representative bodies, a major factor behind the decline in the number of licensed black cabs is the high cost of new vehicles, with only one model approved for use in London. At the Plenary Assembly meeting in September 2024, the Mayor blamed “market forces” for this limited choice, rather than the market distortion caused by TfL’s insistence on a 25ft turning circle requirement. Other models are available for use in other cities but this requirement means they are non-compliant in London. Given that taxis are the only 100% wheelchair accessible mode of transport, could the Mayor...

Ruislip Lido

  • Reference: 2024/3190
  • Question by: Alex Wilson
  • Meeting date: 10 October 2024
Ruislip Lido in the Borough of Hillingdon is a beauty spot that attracts large crowds in the summer from all over London and beyond. Parking spaces are limited to 300 and yet the H13 and 331 buses run only limited services on Sundays and Bank Holidays. This inevitably becomes overcrowded, stimulating greater car use and local problems with parking and traffic. What action can TfL take to improve the availability of bus transport serving the Lido?

Protests and Public Order Policing

  • Reference: 2024/3189
  • Question by: Alex Wilson
  • Meeting date: 10 October 2024
Following Assistant Commissioner Matt Twist’s recent acknowledgement that the Met Police ‘didn’t get everything right’ regarding policing of major protests, what changes would you like to see to the Police’s approach when dealing with overt expressions of antisemitism? How does this compare with how the Met Police deals with people expressing the perfectly legitimate view that Hamas is a terrorist organisation, which is both a statement of fact and UK Government policy?
