  • Reference: 2014/3138
  • Question by: Darren Johnson
  • Meeting date: 17 September 2014
To ensure that the public is aware of the safety issues associated with TfL's subcontracted fleet, would TfL consider providing a continuously-updated listing of all VOSA Recall Notices on its Website, including the name of the specific operator affected and the quantity of the recalled buses involved?

  • Reference: 2014/3136
  • Question by: Darren Johnson
  • Meeting date: 17 September 2014
Can the Mayor assure Londoners that the footbrake failure to operate defect identified on 25/06/2008 in VOSA's Recall Notice R2008/098 relating to Volvo Chassis of B12M, B7L and B7TL built between 01/01/1999 and 01/01/2002, has been dealt with on all buses with these chassis types in use on TfL bus contracts, and can he also provide details listing the vehicles involved and the operators supplying them to TfL.

Protecting cyclists at junctions (2)

  • Reference: 2014/3135
  • Question by: Darren Johnson
  • Meeting date: 17 September 2014
Do you agree that the failure to give cycle lanes (both on road and off road) additional priority when they go across junctions increases the dangers they face? Will you provide extra funding to enable Transport for London and the boroughs to give cycle lanes extra protection at junctions and to stop cars and other vehicles turning straight across them?

  • Reference: 2014/3133
  • Question by: Darren Johnson
  • Meeting date: 17 September 2014
Are you concerned that the changes to Elephant and Castle northern roundabout give too much space to a large piazza that will be under-used, whilst failing to fully cater for the large number of pedestrians and cyclists using the surrounding roads?

Elephant and Castle redesign (1)

  • Reference: 2014/3132
  • Question by: Darren Johnson
  • Meeting date: 17 September 2014
Will you look again at the planned changes to the link road connecting the two junctions, where the southbound cycle lane sends cyclists across the path of buses trying to get into the bus stop and bus lane? There are clear conflicts built into the design which could be eliminated if the southbound link road had a similar design to the northbound link road.

Fish Island to Olympic Park bridge

  • Reference: 2014/3131
  • Question by: Darren Johnson
  • Meeting date: 17 September 2014
Do you regard the new bridge (opened this August) from Fish Island to the Olympic Park as contributing to your declared aim of creating a 'paradise for cycling'? The bridge is all steps and has no side trough for bikes to be pushed up. There is a path to the side with multiple turns that is hard for bikes with large wheels to use, and has to be shared with people using wheelchairs and prams. Is this good enough?

  • Reference: 2014/3130
  • Question by: Darren Johnson
  • Meeting date: 17 September 2014
Some residents' groups around Vauxhall want TfL to remove the gyratory at Vauxhall Cross but retain the bus station. Will TfL model the impact of this option on traffic levels, journey times, air and noise pollution levels, and the bus network, and release the results to the public?
