Benefit sanctions are a significant trigger for people having to resort to emergency food aid, for example by using a food bank. The Government pledged a yellow card system, which gives benefit claimants 14 days to challenge a decision to dock their benefits rather than imposing the sanction immediately. A pilot of this took place in Scotland, will you lobby the Department of Work and Pensions to review the damage to individuals by the sanction system in London and, at the very least, introduce pilots of this yellow card system in London?
