Electric buses

  • Reference: 2019/4072
  • Question by: Caroline Pidgeon
  • Meeting date: 25 February 2019
Given London has a fleet of approximately 9,300 buses, even if you meet the target of 240 pure electric buses by the end of this year, less than 2.6 per cent of the fleet will be electric. Every year, 500 buses would need to be replaced with pure electric or hydrogen buses if you are to achieve the target of a ‘zero-emission’ fleet by 2037. Are you confident you will meet this target?

  • Question by: Caroline Pidgeon
  • Meeting date: 25 February 2019
On the Sunday Politics Show on 13 th January you claimed “Experts say because of our fares freeze, that’s one reason why usage of the underground, London Overground and DLR has gone up while round the country there’s been a massive drop in use of public transport”. Who are these experts, and do they recognise that the TfL Business Plan notes while London Underground and DLR passenger journeys have increased only marginally (by 0.8% and 0.4% respectively), London Overground journeys are down by 0.8%?

In April 2018, employees of Interserve providing cleaning services to the Metropolitan Police were subjected to a Transfer of Undertakings Arrangement after Atalian Servest won the new contract. I understand Atalian Servest are now seeking to reduce the collective working hours of the transferred staff, despite no change in workload. Please will you urgently investigate this situation in order to safeguard those affected.

Abingdon reservoir

  • Reference: 2019/4066

Given that Thames Water’s proposed Abingdon reservoir, while in Oxfordshire, would hit the pockets of London-dwelling Thames Water customers, what are your views on whether or not the reservoir is necessary and do you support the Group Against Reservoir Development’s campaign against its construction? Making London a dementia-friendly city (2)

  • Reference: 2019/4063
  • Question by: Caroline Pidgeon
  • Meeting date: 25 February 2019
During the consideration of your Health Inequalities Strategy, I raised the issue of supporting the understanding of those with dementia in black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) communities, noting there was evidence to suggest some communities may struggle to access information, perhaps exacerbated by language barriers. In response, Professor Yvonne Boyle said: “We do not have much data about dementia in the older BAME group…This is an important area where the data are lacking. Having a Champion will help us perhaps find some of those people and understand a little bit more how we can do better for them” What...
