Providing the Bus Service Hackney Needs

  • Reference: 2019/20791
  • Question by: Jennette Arnold OBE
  • Meeting date: 19 December 2019
Positive changes such as the bus fare freeze and hopper fare are only of use when bus services are well organised and easy to access. Hackney residents report that their local services have been slashed and severely limited, making it much more difficult for them to rely on public transport. Please explain the work you have planned to ensure that Hackney residents have easy access to reliable bus services that fully meet the needs of users.

  • Meeting date: 19 December 2019
My constituents report severe overcrowding on bus routes through Hackney Central at peak times, particularly on the 55 and 26 routes going towards Shoreditch. This means that at peak times buses are unable to stop and take on more passengers due to being at capacity. Please explain how TfL are responding to this capacity issue and how you are ensuring that my constituents are able to get to work and school on time.

Closure of 48 Bus Route

  • Reference: 2019/20788
  • Question by: Jennette Arnold OBE
  • Meeting date: 19 December 2019
Previously my constituents could use the 48 bus to get from Walthamstow Bus Station to London Bridge Bus Station. Now the TfL journey finder recommends two changes (55 to Lea Bridge Roundabout; 488 from Lea Bridge Roundabout to Dalston Kingsland Station; 149 from Dalston Junction Station to London Bridge). Please explain how the closure of the 48 route is helping constituents with mobility impairment to stay connected to London and remain independent.
