Apart from anything else, my question will demonstrate that there is no Ken Livingstone/Labour party love-in today. The Mayor: Here we go. John Biggs: It is a very simple question to answer: do you believe that a greater burden of scrutiny and transparency should have been applied to the grant to the National Assembly Against Racism, given that it is an organisation whose history is very closely aligned with your own political history, and that two of your policy advisers are leading lights of that organisation?

Angie Bray: Well, you do not seem to be able quite to bring yourself to side with Londoners on this occasion - The Mayor: I thought I just did! Angie Bray: Urging people not to strike is not the same as condemning the threatened strike. At the very least, could you do something to alleviate the misery of Londoners, if the strikes go ahead, and agree to arrange - we do have plenty of notice - extra car parking and more buses, to make sure that their day of getting around London is to some extent made easier?

That brings us back to the leadership issue. Does the Mayor not agree that it is the right week but the wrong method? Perhaps he would publicly advise the unions to use their power to tell their members to use the ballot box rather than making life impossible for people in London. Val was quite right: this is a dreadful week for children who are taking examinations.
