Grants (Supplementary) [3]

  • Question by: Jennette Arnold OBE
  • Meeting date: 23 May 2001
Would you agree that this is something that we should look at seriously, should it be raised again? This is a matter of London's money, and it is about your campaign and about Londoners seeking more from you than perhaps you can give at the moment.

Grants (Supplementary) [2]

  • Question by: Jennette Arnold OBE
  • Meeting date: 23 May 2001
Thank you - that is the first time we have heard about the total process. This question arises out of a number of concerns that have been raised with me and other Members as we have gone about our work. Your answer has been useful, but I am not fully happy with it. What I would like to say to you is - The Chair: Would you ask a question, please, Jennette? Jennette Arnold: The question will come, Chair. Would you not agree with me that greater accountability and access could be afforded to London, and that we need to...

Grants (Supplementary) [1]

  • Question by: John Biggs
  • Meeting date: 23 May 2001
Apart from anything else, my question will demonstrate that there is no Ken Livingstone/Labour party love-in today. The Mayor: Here we go. John Biggs: It is a very simple question to answer: do you believe that a greater burden of scrutiny and transparency should have been applied to the grant to the National Assembly Against Racism, given that it is an organisation whose history is very closely aligned with your own political history, and that two of your policy advisers are leading lights of that organisation?

Accountancy (Supplementary) [2]

  • Question by: Nicky Gavron
  • Meeting date: 12 December 2001
Is it possible to aggregate what is spent on local policing and what is spent centrally, which is something that foxes us on the MPA?

Tube Strikes (Supplementary) [6]

  • Question by: Angie Bray
  • Meeting date: 23 May 2001
Angie Bray: Well, you do not seem to be able quite to bring yourself to side with Londoners on this occasion - The Mayor: I thought I just did! Angie Bray: Urging people not to strike is not the same as condemning the threatened strike. At the very least, could you do something to alleviate the misery of Londoners, if the strikes go ahead, and agree to arrange - we do have plenty of notice - extra car parking and more buses, to make sure that their day of getting around London is to some extent made easier?

Tube Strikes (Supplementary) [5]

  • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
  • Meeting date: 23 May 2001
All that suggests that you ought to show some leadership to the workforce in the Tube, and state very clearly and publicly now that you oppose these strikes.

Tube Strikes (Supplementary) [4]

  • Question by: Bob Neill
  • Meeting date: 23 May 2001
Can we have the cost of this exchange declared on somebody's election campaign expenses?

Tube Strikes (Supplementary) [3]

  • Question by: Lynne Featherstone
  • Meeting date: 23 May 2001
That brings us back to the leadership issue. Does the Mayor not agree that it is the right week but the wrong method? Perhaps he would publicly advise the unions to use their power to tell their members to use the ballot box rather than making life impossible for people in London. Val was quite right: this is a dreadful week for children who are taking examinations.
