Update to Mayors Report (Supplementary) [2]

  • Question by: Darren Johnson
  • Meeting date: 22 October 2003
These recent derailments may or may not be connected with the PPP. How long do things need to carry on the way they are? How bad do things need to get? How many derailments do we have to have before you actually pronounce the PPP as unworkable and call upon the Government to look again with a blank sheet of paper at a proper unified system for running the Tube?

Update to Mayors Report (Supplementary) [1]

  • Question by: Lynne Featherstone
  • Meeting date: 22 October 2003
Well, listen to this: `TfL agrees the safety case for the Tube with the HSE, RMT and ASLEF. TfL remains responsible for the safety case. It is nobody else's responsibility and if the Infracos will not do their job (case not proven at the moment) it is TfL's fault for not having adequate systems in place to check." The Mayor as Chair of TfL is responsible; not the Infracos, not the Government. The buck stops with you, so what are you going to do?

TfL (Supplementary) [5]

  • Question by: Bob Neill
  • Meeting date: 22 October 2003
Will you also perhaps ask the graffiti team, which is doing work on bus shelters, to look particularly at the graffiti which has happened to some bus shelters in Hayes in the London Borough of Bromley, as well as at the adjoining over ground railway station? In so doing, will you perhaps also support the residents of Hayes in their fight to retain the village post office?

TfL (Supplementary) [4]

  • Question by: Andrew Pelling
  • Meeting date: 22 October 2003
On the Tramlink question there has been very good action by the police service and by British Transport Police recently to catch those graffiti writers who have had graffiti materials at tram stops in Croydon. I am very grateful for the action that has been taken. Could I ask you to assist with one particular type of anti?social behaviour we have with the tram? The ballast proves to be quite useful ammunition for those who like throwing it at the houses close to the tram system. We are having problems with the tram operator refusing to pay for some resin...

TfL (Supplementary) [3]

  • Question by: Samantha Heath
  • Meeting date: 22 October 2003
I did actually ask a question at the last Mayor's Question Time about the Tramlink issue. Recently we have conducted a survey and found that 27 of the 31 stops are completely covered with graffiti. I know that TfL officers did meet Croydon officers, but I am interested in an update on that.

TfL (Supplementary) [2]

  • Question by: Samantha Heath
  • Meeting date: 22 October 2003
Absolutely. Borough liaison is key for a lot of the work that you do. The work that we are doing on protecting the City's environment makes it very clear that it is actually at the tension between property owners and responsibilities is the clear issue. The question is around where TfL relates to the issues of protecting the City's environment, making sure that we clean up our streets where it is the interface that is the problem. Do you have a specific TfL team that relates to boroughs on this particular issue?

TfL (Supplementary) [1]

  • Question by: Samantha Heath
  • Meeting date: 22 October 2003
Thank you. There is an issue about how TfL relates to buses. Let us say it is public safety in the public realm. Trees overhanging bus stops create an environment which is quite difficult for people wanting to wait at bus stops, say, late at night and blocking CCTV cameras.

Resilience (Supplementary) [2]

  • Question by: Noel Lynch
  • Meeting date: 22 October 2003
This would not be the first time the Labour group has mischievously misquoted the Greens. It is quite obvious they have not read the speech, which I have in front of me. Patrick was not condemning the exercise; he was condemning the use in Scotland and re use of the pictures of the police officers in bio hazard suits as practically moving wallpaper and to hype up the fear of crime so that people are afraid to go out in the streets at night. He did not condemn the exercise, he condemned the use of the images for other uses.

Resilience (Supplementary) [1]

  • Question by: Diana Johnson
  • Meeting date: 22 October 2003
It seems to me a rather sad reflection that that elected MSP has to clarify his comments. I think many people were offended by what he said. I think all of us around this table would say that it is absolutely right that we take the threat of terrorism seriously and we prepare for it. I am concerned that this seems to be another daft Green comment. I would like to seek a reassurance from the Mayor that if any daft comments are made about resilience that you will seek a reassurance from your Deputy Mayor that she distances herself...

Increased Police Numbers (Supplementary) [4]

  • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
  • Meeting date: 22 October 2003
Actually the community that we represent on the Labour side is desperately anxious to see that we do achieve increased policing in London. I have a question in on Rotherhithe and although I know you do not like to go into too much detail about an area, I think that is just one example where there is real anxiety and concern that we should increase our police officers and numbers of wardens. Are you also aware that you also have the enthusiastic support of the Home Secretary to the moves that the Metropolitan Police Authority (MPA) is undertaking to enhance...
