Job losses in Croydon (Supplementary) [3]

  • Question by: Andrew Pelling
  • Meeting date: 28 April 2004
I am very pleased that you recognise how Croydon has changed in that way. Of course, one of the drivers in terms of this poor allocation of monies to south London is that there is no recognition about how those pockets of deprivation do not score with the ward level deprivation scores, therefore not much money comes our way. I am very pleased to hear that you will change things because the amount of money that goes to organisations such as Innovate South London is really so small that they have to operate below critical mass. I am afraid the...

Job losses in Croydon (Supplementary) [2]

  • Question by: Andrew Pelling
  • Meeting date: 28 April 2004
I am pleased to be asking a question when I have guests here from Croydon, particularly the widow of former GLC Member, Steve Stuart, who was a very strong believer in the benefits of a GLC. I am grateful for the points you make about how the LDA is willing to give assistance to businesses in south London. However, an answer you gave at a previous meeting this year showed that the amount of money that came to south London from the LDA was £28 million, in comparison to east London's £451 million, and indeed other areas have received more...

It would be very helpful if you could hand it over.

Olympic Games (Supplementary) [3]

  • Question by: Angie Bray
  • Meeting date: 08 December 2004
Has anybody been given a figure? I am interested to know what sort of figures you have been led to expect.

Olympic Games (Supplementary) [2]

  • Question by: Angie Bray
  • Meeting date: 08 December 2004
Can I just ask ' I do not know who of you might have the answer to this ' have you been given any indication by 2012 what numbers to expect for an Olympic Games in London, were we to be successful with our bid of visitors? I have heard figures of perhaps a million extra people in London for the Olympics. Have you been given any sort of ballpark figures?

Have you had regular meetings with the 2012 group to formulate your 12th Theme?

Operational planning with non-London local authorities (Supplementary) [2]

  • Question by: Bob Neill
  • Meeting date: 08 December 2004
I just wondered if people might more logically think we would go to a London alert website, rather than a Bexley alert or a Hammersmith alert.

Operational planning with non-London local authorities (Supplementary) [1]

  • Question by: Bob Neill
  • Meeting date: 08 December 2004
I notice that the surrounding county councils, of course, are the responsible authority for civil defence and emergency planning. Do you think perhaps it is an advantage that they are able to plan at a county, as opposed to a borough, level? Is that something you should learn from London's point of view? Secondly, I also note that the very helpful plans, which you have detailed, Mr Wechsler, are made available to the public, both on, for example, Oxfordshire County Council's website and Surrey County Council's website, and that Surrey, indeed, has a dedicated SurreyAlert website. Do we propose to...

Provisions for continued water supply (Supplementary) [3]

  • Question by: Roger Evans
  • Meeting date: 08 December 2004
If we were to, for whatever reason, lose a large amount of Thames Water supply, would they be called on to fill that gap, and would they have the capacity to be able to do that?

Provisions for continued water supply (Supplementary) [2]

  • Question by: Roger Evans
  • Meeting date: 08 December 2004
I was just looking back at Mr Wechsler's answer to the question on water supplies. He talks about a utilities sub-committee for London that was looking at dealing with this problem. Does that committee include representation from suppliers other than Thames Water, because certainly those of us in outer London often have our supplies from other organisations? I live in Romford. I get my supply from Anglian Water.
