All of the businesses? Right. How often?

No, I understand that.

Compulsory Purchase (Supplementary) [2]

  • Question by: Angie Bray
  • Meeting date: 08 September 2005
I am staggered by the figure of 24, because I am aware that there are a hell of a lot more businesses than 24 in that area, so it sounds to me like you have an awful long way to go. The main point I want to say to you: I do not know whether you saw some of the local businessmen, who were congregated outside City Hall this morning in advance of this meeting. I think some of them are in the audience now. They are shaking their heads in disbelief at what they just heard from you. I...

  • Question by: Damian Hockney
  • Meeting date: 08 September 2005
Tony (Winterbottom), I have something else. The Mayor has just admitted that you use `expensive lawyers.' Those are his very words. When over 100 firms, then, employ lawyers to defend themselves in these situations in order to defend themselves and real jobs ' 11,000 real jobs in London ' they are then briefed against in the press. They are then briefed against and accused of being all sorts of things, which they are now completely fed up with ' that they are a handful, greedy; over 100 businesses employing 11,000 people are greedy. They are demonised, and then the lawyers...

London Plan (Supplementary) [2]

  • Question by: Tony Arbour
  • Meeting date: 08 September 2005
I understand that, but it is not inconceivable that something which is required for the Olympics that the ODA want will, in fact, be incompatible with the London Plan. Under those circumstances ' and you have already told me that the London Plan will have primacy ' will you call in something which the ODA proposes which is against the policies that you have set out in your London Plan?

Thank you very much for that. I was deeply sorry to hear you repeat in your answer two questions ago to say that those people who will persist with CPOs will be politically motivated. I have no idea what `politically motivated' means in this context, and I would very much like an explanation from you on that. In relation to your brief and succinct answer to the principal question, does that mean that if the ODA come forward with a plan, a proposal ' and you have told us how much you are going to be supportive of the ODA...

Planning (Supplementary) [1]

  • Question by: Nicky Gavron
  • Meeting date: 23 February 2005
London is already planning to take a bigger share of new developments on the basis that it does have brownfield sites. It seems to me that in the interests of interdependency in the relationship that London has with its region it is very important that you do make those representations. Otherwise we are going to have the lobby again to build on our Green Belt and I just want to know exactly what your views would be on that.

Safer Travel at Night (Supplementary) [3]

  • Question by: Roger Evans
  • Meeting date: 23 February 2005
In late 2003 you published a table and circulated it at a Question Time meeting giving us details of the amount of activity that TOCU had undertaken in each of the boroughs by percentage. This was an extremely useful tool for telling us how much activity we had had in our own areas. Will you undertake to produce that table again, updated for the current position?

  • Question by: Jennette Arnold OBE
  • Meeting date: 23 February 2005
Thank you for that. TfL and GLA officers were talking with officers from the NHS in terms of Safer Travel at Night for staff from hospital sites to the nearest transport hub or their bus stop since that is a really dangerous area. Are there any developments in this area and if you do not have it, could I have that in writing?

  • Question by: Jennette Arnold OBE
  • Meeting date: 23 February 2005
The developments to date on this important subject are most welcome. Can I just say to the Chair, the ability to raise questions sent to us through our mailbag or to us directly is important because the touting for hire issue was raised by me with the Mayor. At that time, people were not aware that touting was not a recordable offence. I think that sometimes we have to pull back and hold on to those successes that we are achieving from bringing the concerns of Londoners here and obtaining a response from the Mayor. I will ask my question...
