London Power (Supplementary) [1]

  • Question by: Onkar Sahota
  • Meeting date: 24 March 2022
Dr Onkar Sahota AM: Mr Mayor, I know that the energy crisis in this country is very important. London Power was one of the ways you wanted to lower the cost of energy consumption for Londoners. Of course, the poor housing, poor energy levels, poor heating, all has an impact on the welfare of children. The Government yesterday missed the opportunity of reducing the burden on the most vulnerable children. Can you talk to us about how the Chancellor of the Exchequer could have yesterday helped to improve the health of the children living in London, please [via the budget]?

Support to Ukrainian Refugees in London (Supplementary) [2]

  • Question by: Peter Fortune
  • Meeting date: 24 March 2022
Peter Fortune AM: Thank you very much, Deputy Chairman. This is a technical question about people arriving in London with two parts to it. This is something that you will have some direct influence over because it is TfL. One is the children arriving who will be going to school. Will there be TfL support for them in terms of journeys with Oyster cards and so on? It will be quite complicated to register them at addresses. The second is foreign-plated cars that might be driving over from Ukraine as well. It takes 10 days to register with TfL. Will...

Support to Ukrainian Refugees in London (Supplementary) [1]

  • Question by: Andrew Boff
  • Meeting date: 24 March 2022
Andrew Boff AM: Thank you, Deputy Chairman. I apologise for not being there in person as I am attending the Council of Europe’s Congress of Local and Regional Authorities in Strasbourg and I regret I will soon have to leave this meeting. The Ukrainian delegation here - five brave women who had to drive for three days from Kyiv to get here to make the rest of Europe aware of the situation in their country - have asked me to extend their particular gratitude to the UK Government, British local authorities and British people in general for their generosity, support...

Improving Sanction Detection and Conviction Rates (Supplementary) [1]

  • Question by: Tony Devenish
  • Meeting date: 24 March 2022
Tony Devenish AM: Hello again, Mr Mayor. It is very good of you to blame the Government. Are you responsible after six years as the Police and Crime Commissioner for London for any of the issues we have just been discussing?

Transport in London (Supplementary) [1]

  • Question by: Neil Garratt
  • Meeting date: 24 March 2022
Neil Garratt AM: We have just heard about how you are the man who is responsible for transport in London or ought to be. You would be aware I am sure today that the Office of Rail and Road (ORR) has decided to bring a prosecution against TfL, the Tram Operations Ltd (TOL) and the driver in relation to the fatal tram crash in Croydon six years ago now, nearly. What I see and what I hear from people who have been involved in that over that period, in particular from the families, is that you and your office have...

Awareness of Air Pollution in London (Supplementary) [2]

  • Question by: Leonie Cooper
  • Meeting date: 24 March 2022
Léonie Cooper AM: Thank you, Deputy Chairman. I thought I might return to the topic of Londoners’ awareness of the effects of air pollution, which I thought was where Assembly Member Bokhari had started. I too, like Assembly Member Polanski, had the privilege of being at the launch and listening to your remarks in Forest Hill about the impending consultation on the Greater London ULEZ proposal. I also had - which he did not have - the privilege of being at Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital when you called for a new Clean Air Act, which is something that the...

Awareness of Air Pollution in London (Supplementary) [1]

  • Question by: Zack Polanski
  • Meeting date: 24 March 2022
Zack Polanski AM: First of all, I want to start, Mr Mayor, by thanking you for the collaborative approach that you are taking to tackling air pollution and I appreciated the invitation to Forest Hill School where you launched your recent air pollution consultation. We are looking forward to the consultation. In that speech, you said that we are facing triple dangers: a climate emergency, an air pollution crisis and a congestion crisis. I agree with two thirds of that. We are clearly facing a climate emergency and we cannot start in 2029 to tackle it for 2030. We are...

Oral Update to the Mayor's Report (Supplementary) [5]

  • Question by: Len Duvall OBE
  • Meeting date: 20 January 2022
Len Duvall AM: Mr Mayor, going back to the policing issue, it is right that operational policing should be left to the police. However, what is really galling and makes people angry is that during that time of these parties, weddings were broken up, rightly so, because people were breaking rules. Things went on and took place where the police need to walk the extra mile to explain to the public why no action is being taken. It cannot be right that the great and good get away with it while the ordinary public are taken into the courts; that...

Oral Update to the Mayor's Report (Supplementary) [4]

  • Question by: Anne Clarke
  • Meeting date: 20 January 2022
Anne Clarke AM: Thank you, Mr Mayor. I am glad that you recognise the issue that this is not just cladding, this is far further spread and as elected representatives we represent a large number of people who find themselves in a situation where there is an announcement from Government, and they are left behind again and their situations have not improved. As elected representatives, what hope do you think we can offer leaseholders and those still living in these buildings that are not going to be touched by the Government’s announcements? What message can we share with them? It...

Oral Update to the Mayor's Report (Supplementary) [3]

  • Question by: Tony Devenish
  • Meeting date: 20 January 2022
Tony Devenish AM: Mr Mayor, good morning. I agree with you on road safety. However, is it really necessary to have a target of 1 million? Could we not have more carrots and less stick please?
