Outer London Transport (Supplementary) [4]

  • Question by: Emma Best
  • Meeting date: 23 June 2022
Emma Best AM: Thank you, Chair. Mr Mayor, do you accept that there are some people ‑‑ for example, you heard about Dogs On The Streets and how they can access the scrappage scheme because that simply will not get them the vehicle they need to replace. I have spoken to so many people, disabled Londoners, large families, people who do private chauffeuring, small businesses with vans and business vehicles. That scrappage scheme will not allow them to continue their business. Do you understand the disconnect there with the point that has been made with what Londoners on the ground...

Outer London Transport (Supplementary) [3]

  • Question by: Peter Fortune
  • Meeting date: 23 June 2022
Peter Fortune AM: Thank you very much, Chair. Mr Mayor, I recognise the mathematical argument that Assembly Member Cooper was putting forward. If you add up the daily charge of £12.50, then after a time it gets to a bigger figure with which you can buy a car. However, the suggestion seemed to be that a lot of Londoners would already have that money in the bank, which further suggests then that a way around this could just be to buy a new car. I know that is an assertion you put forward yourself and I know you understandably backed...

Outer London Transport (Supplementary) [2]

  • Question by: Leonie Cooper
  • Meeting date: 23 June 2022
Léonie Cooper AM: Thank you, Chair. It is just on the issue of whether or not it is possible to afford an alternative vehicle, which Assembly Member Garratt said people cannot. If you do the calculation of £12.50 a day, five days a week, let us say 46 weeks a year with six weeks of holiday, that works out as a payment of £2,875. I will not name particular outlets, but we all know that there are trader magazines where you can go and look for second-hand vehicles that would comply with the current level of the ULEZ that are...

Outer London Transport (Supplementary) [1]

  • Question by: Neil Garratt
  • Meeting date: 23 June 2022
Neil Garratt AM: Good morning. Speaking of transport in outer London, I have been contacted by lots of residents in Sutton and Croydon about your Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) consultation, which is currently ongoing until 29 July [2022], I believe. They are worried about what that expansion will mean because they cannot afford to pay £12.50 a day to use their car, they cannot afford to replace their car with a car that does not incur that charge, and they cannot get to work or do their daily journeys any other way. What do you suggest that they do?

Supporting Small Business Owners (Supplementary) [2]

  • Question by: Marina Ahmad
  • Meeting date: 23 June 2022
Marina Ahmad AM: Thank you, Chair. The original question was about small businesses and, Mr Mayor, you have talked about how you support small business in London through this very difficult time. I would like to read a quote to you from the Chief Executive of the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) where he says, “The London Chamber is baffled that a government who once appeared to be pro-business, seems to have forgotten the essential role businesses play for our economy. 2022 was meant to be the year for business bounceback and a return to normality - and...

Supporting Small Business Owners (Supplementary) [1]

  • Question by: Peter Fortune
  • Meeting date: 23 June 2022
Peter Fortune AM: Thank you very much, Chair. I really support any help that can be given to small businesses, especially post-COVID. You will recall a few months ago I asked you about the Federation of Small Business (FSB) report, entitled Fair Pay, Fair Play, which talked about a number of things that you could do as Mayor. We focused especially on policies around late payments, and you said you were going to go away and read that. Did you get a chance to read it?

Buses in London (Supplementary) [2]

  • Question by: Nick Rogers
  • Meeting date: 23 June 2022
Nick Rogers AM: Good morning, Mr Mayor. We have been speaking about the consultation quite a bit and that is scheduled to run until 12 July [2022]. In a recent briefing for Assembly Members there was cross-party concern that that may not be long enough to have all views taken into account. We have had the [ Evening] Standard reporting today that 9,000 people have responded to the consultation so far. I do not know if you have updated figures, but that is a very small proportion of the people who will be affected by this. Do you think that...

Buses in London (Supplementary) [1]

  • Question by: Caroline Pidgeon
  • Meeting date: 23 June 2022
Caroline Pidgeon MBE AM: Mr Mayor, you have repeated this morning that these cuts are to deliver the 4% network reduction in bus kilometres required by the Government. However, the reality is that these bus cuts are the equivalent of 1.6% rather than 4% and so a further 2.4% bus cuts can be expected. Can Londoners expect these additional bus cuts as well?

Living in London (Supplementary) [1]

  • Question by: Len Duvall OBE
  • Meeting date: 19 May 2022
Len Duvall AM: This is a very important question and I was expecting an interesting debate. There is an issue about fear of crime and how that can add to public safety awareness. There are also other issues that contribute to it. You mentioned air quality. We talked about the issue of renewing the stock on our Underground and railways. I get on the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) and I notice the chairs are threadbare now and I know there are going to be delays. One of the issues around what we can be doing to make London an attractive...

Value for Money (Supplementary) [1]

  • Question by: Len Duvall OBE
  • Meeting date: 19 May 2022
Len Duvall AM: On the link between value for money and fair funding you alluded to in your answer, I am particularly interested in where we are with the NICC grants issue, where we are subsidising what, in effect, we should be getting in receipt from central Government. Quite frankly, they are short‑changing Londoners and short‑changing the police and, in some ways, holding back the police from making further improvements as the Assembly Member has identified. We could reuse that money, redistribute, if we had fair funding. Where are we on those issues, given that the Government said that we...
