Webby People's Voice Award
Team London's Speed Volunteering App has been selected as a nominee for the 20th annual Webby Awards in the Mobile: City& Urban Innovation category.
The app has been selected as one of the five best in the world in its category and is competing for the internet's two most coveted awards: The Webby and The Webby People's Voice Awards.
The free app is a great example of how London is using technology to better connect with residents and build better, stronger communities.
Team London identified that time was a significant barrier to getting people to participate in volunteering or social action. The app offers hundreds of short, one-off volunteering opportunities that are easy to fit around existing commitments.
The Webby Awards is the leading international award honouring excellence on the internet. Established in 1996 during the web’s infancy, The Webbys is presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences - a 1,000+ member judging body.
While the Academy selects its Webby Winner in each category, every Webby Nominee also contends for a Webby People's Voice Award as selected by the public. Last year, people cast over 2.5 million votes from over 200 countries worldwide. Voting for People's Voice is open until Thursday 21 April 2016.
