Q&A with the Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime

The annual Notting Hill Carnival took place in August, with the Met reporting that 7,000 officers were deployed on each of the two days.

There were 528 arrests across the event.1 This is an increase in arrest numbers compared to the 2024 event, where 334 people were arrested over the two days.2 The Met reported a decrease in serious violence compared to the 2024 event.3

Tomorrow, the London Assembly Police and Crime Committee will hold a question-and-answer session with the Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime, assessing the effectiveness of policing at Notting Hill Carnival, including the use of Live Facial Recognition.

The Committee will also be reviewing the Met’s A New Met for London Phase 2: 2025-28 consultation, which outlines the Met’s ambition of “More Trust, Less Crime and High Standards”.4

The guests are:

  • Kaya Comer-Schwartz, Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime
  • Kenny Bowie, Director of Strategy and MPS Oversight, Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC)

The meeting will take place on Wednesday 17 September 2025 from 10am in the Chamber at City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, E16 1ZE.

Media and members of the public are invited to attend.

The meeting can also be viewed LIVE or later via webcast or YouTube.
