The Mayor now oversees a total budget of £20 billion and is responsible for allocating funds for the Greater London Authority (GLA) and its functional bodies.

  • The Mayor’s Consultation Budget 2023-24 states that council tax may need to rise by an additional £27.89 a year for an ‘average’ Band D household.
  • The London Fire Brigade has a series of financial pressures that are not covered by its budget submission, including on staffing costs.
  • The London Stadium continues to be loss-making and there has been little evidence of progress on a naming rights agreement.
  • Reserves have been increasing in the GLA Group through the pandemic and the cost-of-living crisis and are expected to reach £2.2 billion in March 2023.

Tomorrow, the London Assembly Budget and Performance Committee will question the Mayor on his Consultation Budget for 2023-24.

What will the budget mean for vital services for Londoners, like transport and policing? And how will a potential increase in council tax impact the lives of Londoners during the cost-of-living crisis?

The guests are:

  • Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London
  • David Bellamy, Mayor’s Chief of Staff
  • David Gallie, GLA’s Executive Director of Resources
  • Enver Enver, Assistant Director Group Finance and Performance, GLA

The meeting will take place on Thursday, 5 January 2023 from 10am, in The Chamber, City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, London, E16 1ZE.

Media and members of the public are invited to attend.

The meeting can also be viewed LIVE or later via webcast or YouTube
