Fire safety in London’s social housing
- How effectively is the London Fire Brigade (LFB) discharging its responsibilities in relation to fire safety audits and inspections in social housing?
- How well is the LFB collaborating with relevant partners to identify and respond to fire safety failings?
- What are the main fire safety risks and defects arising in London’s social housing?
- What are the barriers facing housing associations and local authorities in addressing fire safety risks and overcoming backlogs of remedial actions?
- How effective are current fire safety regulations for residents in London’s social housing?
- Are the new Residential Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan (RPEEP) regulations working to improve the fire safety of disabled and vulnerable people in social housing?
Tomorrow, the London Assembly Fire Committee will examine fire safety in London’s social housing, with a particular focus on how London Fire Brigade (LFB), social housing providers, regulators and other relevant partners are working to identify and respond to fire safety risks. The Committee will hear firsthand accounts from two social housing residents about their own experiences, and those of other tenants, of living with fire safety defects in their buildings and the impact of remedial works undertaken to address those safety issues.
The meeting will take place on Tuesday 23 June from 10am, in the Chamber at City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, E16 1ZE.
The guests are:
Panel One:
- Adam Gabsi, Co-Chair, Inclusion London
- Pamela Newman, Vice Chair, G15 Residents’ Group
Panel Two:

- Pamela Oparaocha, Assistant Commissioner for Prevention and Protection, LFB
