The UK has seen a significant increase in “van miles” in recent years, with more people requiring more goods and services.
Delivery vans have a significant detrimental impact on carbon emissions, poor air quality and congestion in London. Overall congestion and air pollution caused by van miles are projected to increase in London in future years.
Electric vans and cargo bikes are cleaner and quieter modes of transport for businesses. These have lower fuel costs than diesel vans and cargo bikes can contribute to reducing congestion on the roads.
What is the impact of unsustainable freight and congestion on businesses in London? And what barriers do London’s businesses face in the race to net zero?
The London Assembly Economy Committee will meet tomorrow to discuss the incentives, risks and barriers around more sustainable freight, including cargo bikes.
The guests are:
- Dr Will Norman, Walking and Cycling Commissioner for London
- Chris Dixon, Co-Founder, PedalMe
- Aaron Fleming-Saheed, Business Owner, Cycle Sparks
- Oli Ivens, Head of Consulting, MP Smarter Travel
- Dr Eva Neitzert, Director, Just Economics
The meeting will take place on Wednesday, 30 November from 2pm, in the Chamber at City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, E16 1ZE.
Media and members of the public are invited to attend.
The meeting can also be viewed LIVE or later via webcast or YouTube.
