What progress has the Mayor made towards meeting his ambition to make London a zero-carbon, zero pollution city?
The Mayor’s Environment Strategy was published in May 2018 as “the first strategy to bring together approaches to every aspect of London’s environment”. However, the current plan only runs until 2023 and does not include commitments made since 2018.
What thought has been given to the need to update the Environment Strategy in light of new targets, such as the 2030 net zero target?
Tomorrow, the London Assembly Environment Committee will hold a Q&A session with the Deputy Mayor for Environment and Energy on environment issues of current concern. Topics will include:
- The scale of interventions needed to achieve net zero by 2030, including the impacts of, and messaging around, emission zones, such as the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ)
- Progress on the Mayor’s Environment Strategy and his ambition for London to be a ‘zero-carbon, zero pollution’ city by 2030
- London’s approach to re-wilding and protecting biodiversity and ensuring biodiversity net gain
- Updates on key programmes relating to energy and light and noise pollution
- The Mayor’s own leadership on environmental sustainability, including through the Greater London Authority’s (GLA) climate budget.
The guests are:
- Shirley Rodrigues, Deputy Mayor for Environment and Energy, GLA
- Catherine Barber, Assistant Director, Environment and Energy team, GLA
- Elliot Treharne, Assistant Director for Transport, Infrastructure and Connectivity, GLA
The meeting will take place on Thursday, 9 March 2023 from 10am in The Chamber at City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, E16 1ZE.
Media and members of the public are invited to attend.
The meeting can be viewed LIVE or later via webcast or YouTube.
