Assembly statement on review of Met’s progress on Casey Report
Responding to the news Dr Fairfield has been appointed to carry out a review of progress by the Met on the Casey review, Marina Ahmad AM, Chair of the London Assembly Police and Crime Committee, said:
“The Casey review highlighted serious and significant issues with the organisational culture at the Met, describing it as being institutionally racist, misogynistic and homophobic.
“Sadly, two years on from the review, we still see concerning incidents occur within the Met.
“The Met Commissioner has worked hard to root out officers and staff who are not fit to wear the Met badge, but more work is clearly needed for the organisation, responsible for keeping us safe, to uphold the standards we expect.
“The London Assembly Police and Crime Committee will be looking into progress of the Casey Review early in 2026, including a focus on the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime’s oversight role in delivering cultural change, in light of recent high-profile incidents.
“We welcome the news that Dr Fairfield will be carrying out this follow up review, and hope to support her in this in whichever way we can.”
