Assembly: Mayor must work with new US administration
The London Assembly has called on the Mayor to work with the new U.S administration and the European Union to promote trade and foreign investment in the capital.
U.S goods and services trade with the UK totalled an estimated $296.6 billion in 2022, and London has played host to a series of U.S sporting and cultural giants in recent years – such as Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, and NFL and Major League Baseball regular season games.
In a motion agreed today, the Assembly urged the Mayor to work with Donald Trump’s administration, all future U.S. administrations, and the European Union.
Alessandro Georgiou AM, who proposed the motion, said:
“The US’s economic and cultural investment into our amazing capital city can be felt across London, directly or indirectly.
“I am pleased with today’s motion calling on the Mayor to work with the incoming US administration, and I know that Londoners will feel the benefits of doing so.
“We must work together to get the best for London.”

This Assembly notes the Government’s commitment to work with the new U.S administration.
This Assembly recognises that the U.S is a significant contributor to UK economy, with U.S goods and services trade with the UK totalling an estimated $295.6 billion in 2022, with a large proportion of this attributed to London.
This Assembly also acknowledges that the U.S is a strong ally of London, not just in terms of foreign direct investment, but also in terms of the contribution it makes towards sports, culture and tourism in London. This includes the likes of the NFL, MLB, and Taylor Swift's record-breaking Eras Tour, which have all played a significant role in London’s economy in recent years.
This Assembly calls on the Mayor to join the Government and work with the new administration, as well as future U.S. administrations, and the European Union to promote trade and foreign direct investment in London whilst maintaining our high quality standards.
