After a few surveys, several rounds of user testing and a discussion with some sneak peeks of our new designs, we’re very happy to welcome you to the new Talk London!

The platform is still in beta version, which means that it is not the final version and more edits and updates will follow.

Our old platform last got a make-over in 2017 and the technology it was running on needed a full upgrade. We used the opportunity to make improvements based on your feedback.

What’s new?

  • A fresh design, but we kept our familiar pink colour as so many of you told us you liked that.

  • Big consultations are now gathered on an ‘issue page’, where you can read more about the background, see the different stages in the timeline and find all the related surveys and discussions together. This was a new feature a lot of you were keen to see.  The page you’re on now is an issue page, and going forward this is how we’ll present our work.

  • Lots of you told us you don’t always comment on our discussions, so we’ve created new and easy ways to have your say. To show your support for another member’s comment or idea, you can now click the little arrow to ‘upvote’ it or click the heart icon to show you care.

As always, your feedback is very welcome! It will help us improve Talk London over the next few months, as we continue to shape our new platform.

What do you think of our new online community platform? What features are you most looking forward to use?

Tell us in the discussion below.

1. The Veolia rubbish guys are great but the rubbish truck should follow the recycle truck so refused recycling bags get picked up and are not left on the street until next collection

2. People who drive cabs, vans and lorries for a living around London seem automatically to turn on their engines before they read their notes or call their offices or loved ones, so leaving the engine running and polluting the air we breathe unnecessarily before they leave. Also when they arrive. We need more small item advertising identifying this as a problem and suggesting they turn off their engines when they are not moving to help us all breathe cleaner air; and turning them on only when they are ready to move. Good clean air impact.

Mr. Khan,
On the grounds that Muhammad was slave trader and that more white people from northern Europe were captured and sold into slavery in Arabia by the Barbery pirates than were sold by black slavers to white slave traders and that slavery was still legal in Islamic countries over 150 years after Britain abolished slavery will your "Commission For Diversity In The Public Realm" also be looking at removing Mosques that have been built using wealth earned from the slave trade?

I don’t care for this site. I have now logged in 3 times and when I try to make a comment or agree with another it asks me to login, again and now that I have I have been moved away from the comments I was about to agree with. Total rubbish.
I was about to agree with the people who were complaining about the enforced changes in our streets with the LTN’s. We have essentially been locked out of our home unless I make a 15 minute round London trip to get back. I wrote several times to Highways and they have never bothered to respond. These LTN’s decrease traffic flow and therefore increase pollution. I cannot now cross the main roads with ease but had no problem before. I am too old to start cycling. Not happy at all

Sorry but I think the new site is an appalling backward step. On the old one you could actually see the topic and comments together but now it seems all disjointed and far less intuitive to move around.

I am going to look around a bit more but it is so bad I will probably remove myself from the community feedback.

My feeling now is that this is on purpose. When you think about it: given the state of London's finances, why on earth was it a priority to spend money on re-designing a site which was fine (and increasingly popular) as it was?

I think I have now read all the other comments. I have no objections to the pink colour but if the majority preferred green I would not mind. I found my old password with very little difficulty, and it still works. The trick I use to find my passwords is to make a note of them in a notebook which is in my "office" but well hidden so that anyone who steals my laptop is very unlikely to find my notebook of passwords. I enjoy being consulted. All people should be consulted about changes which affect them: "No decision about me without me".

Last comment: I am very glad that the print of your community platform is large enough for me to read it without using a magnifying glass. I am 78 years old and my eyesight is not very good.

1- before implementing any plan, residents must be consulted, full assessment for impact published and any trials set up with clearly agreed and defined KPIs. UNLIKE what has been done with LTNs, a shamefully badly planned schemed, imposed for so called environmental reasons and now used to raise insane amounts of money in fines whilst wreaking the lives of so many for a wide range of reasons and massively increasing pollution on busy roads and living residential roads ghostly empty, particularly at night.
2- stop obsessing about cycling, it’s not an option for most (again, for a broad range of reasons). Invest in better, more affordable, electric public transport instead.
3- London needs to roll out more electric charging points to encourage people to buy electric vehicle if they need one.

Not sure it's a good idea - provides for a bunch of self-selecting busy-bodies disproportionate influence in shaping policy, but then again that's true of most of the political process.

Imposing change on people should be done with their consent, with their being properly informed as to what's been proposed, and as part of that process, invited to comment. It should be a consideration by those who seek to change things that some people like things the way they already are, and that those who are happy with the status quo have just as profound and valid a stake in things as those who want change.

I have allotments near my home, for instance. I don't want to wake up one day and discover that some property developers are building flats over them.

I think all supermarket and new shopping builds should have housing above them and 50% should be council housing. Stop letting developers get away with other alternatives. We need council housing to provide an alternative to privet rent, this will provide competition. Also a real good look into empty properties and disused sites to get them used again. Some imaginative solutions like prefab ready made buildings and of course all totally energy efficient.

Regards to this website: it shows only couple of posts under your whole paragraphs on the top. Clicking to next page than scrolling down through the same paragraph is not user friendly. Could we not scroll down through posts like on Facebook / instagram so there would be no need to load each page after 2 or 3 comments? I gave up after 3rd load. So I only saw few comments. Thanks for putting this together and letting us to have a say.

If the system when revised permits simple suggestions, such as how to minimise the bunching of buses on similar routes, it could help improve life for everyone in London at no extra cost. That could be a first modest step towards taking more account of what London needs. If that type of suggestion were ignored it would not auger well for more ambitious ideas via Talk London

Hi Eastlondoner

Thank you for your feedback.

We think that’s a great idea and it often came up during using testing too.

Without giving too much away of what’s happening next, we can already share that this feature will be part of one of the next updates to the platform.

Are there any other features you’d like see? Or any particular features you’re looking forward to use?
