Background
The challenge
Our online community was set up in July 2012 so that City Hall could hear from Londoners about big issues that matter to them. It since has hosted most of City Hall’s consultations: from clean air to housing, and from the London Budget to the recovery from COVID-19, to name a few.
The platform last got a make-over in 2017 and needed a new one by 2021, as the technology it's running on had to be fully upgraded. We used this opportunity to improve Talk London by adding some new features, and were keen to involve our members and others Londoners every step of the way.
Our approach
We set up surveys to ask about active citizenship, what parts of the platform you used most often, and how you felt about some of the new proposed features. These were developed with your feedback from previous member surveys in mind, as well as a few rounds of user testing and interviews with members and Londoners over the course of 2019-2010. We then also shared a few sneak peeks of the new designs and asked members to comment on them during a discussion.
Talk London team
We're a small team and work with policy teams and researchers across City Hall to set up consultations, surveys and discussions.
