Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) is the term given to all forms of violence and abuse experienced disproportionately by women and girls, or experienced by them because of their gender. This can include domestic abuse, sexual violence and exploitation, forced marriage, ‘honour’ based violence, female genital mutilation (FGM) and sexual harassment.
The National Police Chief’s Council estimates that 2 million women in England and Wales are victims of male violence every year. Crimes related to violence against women and girls make up 20% of police recorded crime.

Show full commentSimilar to other commenters above, a vast majority of these crimes have come about because we fail to impart British cultural values on new arrivers. The government has failed to stem the flow of illegal immigrants and even legal migrants have no reason to observe our culture. FGM is not something in line with our way of life but it is for other cultures around the world. It is unacceptable here and we absolutely should be intolerant of things that are immoral. Grooming native girls is unacceptable and the police need the moral courage to aggressively attack this.

Show full commentI am a woman who does not normally fear being outdoors, in parks or on the street, but have personally eperienced harassment by immigrant men. I do not care if I sound racist. I am also an immigrant and I know what many men are like where I come from. There are way too many men with zero respect for women, and a lot of this is further encouraged by the likes of andrew tate online. They need to be reeducated and all reports against them taken seriously.

A recent BBC report showed that half of the pubs registered with 'Ask Angela' knew nothing about it and most women who suffer domestic violence are too scared to report it.
This needs to be a real focus, I don't know the answer but there are lots of people who do and need to be encouraged to both report those responsible and help us understand how to help others.
Also, men need to feel they can report, so called, friends who they know are abusing women anonymously.

"Sexual violence and exploitation, forced marriage, ‘honour’ based violence, female genital mutilation (FGM) and sexual harassment"
Sorry to point out the obvious, but is your plan to somehow change the behaviour of ~11million people in this country through a police action plan?
I may not have a doctorate in philosophy, but I think your actions will prove entirely fruitless unless you seek to resolve the root of the issue.

When they tried to report they were told not to bother. It’s a systematic problem. Along with the systemic racism. Close the Met. Make them reapply. Have an all-female rape and sexual assault service. And a specialist CPS.

Community Member 6 months agoIf you have friends who have been raped by serving Met officers surely you and/or they should report it to the Mayor or the police commissioner? These people should not just be sacked they should be in prison.

Show full commentWhen will misogyny become a hate crime? Women have been abused by men since the dawn of time, yet it is perfectly legal to call us a c*nt, wh*re and every name under the sun. If it's a hate crime to use similar words towards people because of their religion or ethnicity, why is it not for their gender? As long as men think they can speak like this to women, the mentality that they can commit other forms of violence and abuse will prevail.

Community Member 6 months agoIt sounds like you’re advocating the remove freedom of speech. I’d seriously consider what this actually means before giving the government the right to decide what you as an individual can and cannot say

Show full commentWe need police that go after criminals on the road, those that are hooting for no reason causing severe noise pollution and flashing headlights because the driver is giving way and yet they are blinding someone from seeing oncoming traffic. There needs to be an assigned traffic police that will take action and fine those on the streets of London and every bad London borough that is seeing drastic cutbacks. Action must be taken as soon as possible and the focus on problems that are on the road from drivers that are not fit to be behind a wheel. When you go to places up north of the UK like Liverpool, Leeds and Manchester - careless and dangerous driving results in arrests, the same should happen in London.

Equating 'gender' to sex is sexist and regressive.
'Gender' is not a protected characteristic under the Equality Act.
Sex is a protected characteristic under the Act but you don't ask about that. Why?
There is no option for anyone who does not have a 'gender'.
How are the public expected to trust the Met Police, the Mayor or MOPAC if they fail to get these basic things right, especially when it comes to violence against girls and women?

You can not protect what you can not define and anything the Mayor, Met, Gov attempt to do to reduce VAWG means nothing if they are referring to a 'chosen gender'. Women and girls are not targeted due to a chosen gender. They are targeted because of their obvious sex and this whole initiative is worthless if its based on gender not sex.
