Time: 11:30am to 3:30pm

Venue: Chatham House, 10 St James's Square, London, SW1Y 4LE, GB

Hosted by Chatham House, this meeting will explore the regional impacts of rises in global temperature, which will not be equal, and present specific challenges for already-arid regions such as those in the Middle East and North Africa. Man-made resource stresses in this region already interact with and exacerbate instability and human suffering in areas including Southern Iraq, Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories and Yemen. In other places, new trends such as tropical storms and sea-level rises will challenge infrastructure and economies.

Climate resilience and environmental restoration is moving up the global agenda, yet in an area preoccupied with regional conflicts and rivalries, the issue receives comparatively little attention and investment. Bringing together environmental, political and economic experts who study the region, this workshop will first look at how climate impacts and resource stresses are likely to impact on human well-being, stability and economies in the region and flag up areas that urgently need more investigation, robust strategies and investment.
