There has been a 26 per cent rise in A & E admissions among the 85+ age group over four years, nationally[1. It is estimated that around a quarter of those admissions could be avoided.
The London Assembly Health Committee will meet tomorrow to evaluate the increase in attendance by older people to A & E’s and assess out-of-hospital provisions for older people in London.
This meeting will explore out-of-hospital care provision in the context of the higher numbers of older people (from 60 years and over) presenting at London A & E’s.
The Committee will question the following guests:
- Amanda Coyle - Assistant Director of Health and Communities, Greater London Authority
- Helen Cameron - Regional Director of Transformation, NHS England (London)
- Lynn Strother - Principle Policy and Voice Co-ordinator, Age UK (London)
- Lynn Strother will also be accompanied by Tom Gentry, Policy Adviser, Health Age UK (national office)
- Jay Stickland - Senior Assistant Director (Care Management) Adult and Older People’s Services, Greenwich
- Peter Kohn - Director, Office of the Clinical Commissioning Groups
Media and members of the public are invited to attend. The meeting can also be viewed via webcast.
