The Crossrail project started construction in 2009. Due to open in 2018, it is now over two years late on delivery. As recently as June 2018, Crossrail was estimated to cost £14.8bn, but it is now estimated to top £18.7bn when completed. Of the £1.1bn funding needed to complete the project, the Greater London Authority has pledged £825m, leaving just £275m to be agreed with the Government.
The Transport Committee will tomorrow look at Crossrail’s latest challenges now that it is nearing its final stages and the project management has transferred to TfL. The Committee will investigate governance and funding issues, how project delivery is being affected by COVID-19, and how TfL plans to coordinate with Network Rail to deliver crucial parts of Crossrail.
The guests are:
- Heidi Alexander, Deputy Mayor for Transport
- Andy Byford, Commissioner, Transport for London
- Mark Wild, Chief Executive, Crossrail Limited
- Tony Meggs CB, Former Chair, Crossrail Limited
- Tim Ball, Director, Elizabeth line, Network Rail
The meeting will take place on Tuesday, 1 December 2020 from 10am. In line with government advice, this meeting will take place virtually.
Media and members of the public can watch the meeting live here.
