Responding to the release of the final version of the Mayor’s Environment Strategy,[1] Caroline Russell AM, Chair of the London Assembly Environment Committee, said:
"It’s good to see movement with the Final Environment Strategy on some of the Environment Committee’s recommendations, such as stronger proposals on reducing waste and increasing recycling, as well as some targets on weather and climate resilience.”
“However, key asks have not been included in this final document and there are further questions to answer. For example, the committee called for stronger ambitions in carbon reduction up to 2025, for the Ultra Low Emission Zone to be extended to more vehicles London-wide and for boroughs to be pressed to offer a minimum level of recycling collections to flats.”
“The London Assembly, as a whole, looks forward to its Question and Answer session with the Mayor and the Deputy Mayor for the Environment and Energy on Monday 21 May, when we will examine the Final Strategy in greater detail and vote on it.”
