The London Borough of Culture was created by the Mayor of London to improve access to culture, especially in the outer London boroughs.
The first winning recipients of £1.35m of funding were Waltham Forest for 2019 and Brent for 2020.
But how did it go for Waltham Forest? What were the tangible benefits for local people? Did it have positive outcomes that were worth the investment? What lessons can be learnt from Waltham Forest for Brent and subsequent boroughs?
A full, independent evaluation will be published in 2020, but what can Mayoral and borough representatives tell us now?
Tomorrow the London Assembly Regeneration Committee will discuss the Mayor of London’s London Borough of Culture programme in detail.
The following guests will attend:
- Justine Simons OBE, Deputy Mayor, Culture and the Creative Industries
- Shonagh Manson, Assistant Director - Culture and Creative Industries, Greater London Authority
- Lorna Lee, Assistant Director, Culture and Heritage Services, Waltham Forest Council
- Phil Porter, Strategic Director Community Wellbeing, Brent Council
- Lois Stonock, Artistic Director, Brent 2020, Brent Council
The meeting will take place on Tuesday, 28 January 2020 at 10:00am in the Chamber, City Hall (The Queen’s Walk, London SE1).
Media and members of the public are invited to attend.
The meeting can also be viewed LIVE via the webcast and on YouTube.
