Housing Zones under scrutiny

New housing
Created on
30 January 2019

The Mayor is using Housing Zones to unlock land and leverage private investment as part of his strategy to build more new homes, vitally important at a time when the London housing market has slowed down.

Some £600 million in funding has been made available by the Mayor and the Government for 75,000 new homes across 30 Zones over 10 years up to 2026 to hold Sadiq Khan to account.

Despite the scale of the ambition, little information is available about the success of individual zones or the programme as a whole.

The London Assembly Regeneration Committee will tomorrow examine the progress and delivery of the programme and whether public money has helped bring forward delivery. The Committee will also consider the programme’s regeneration impact and whether it creates good quality, sustainable neighbourhoods that are supported by appropriate services and infrastructure.

The following guests will attend:

  • David Lunts, Executive Director for Housing & Land, Greater London Authority
  • Jamie Ratcliff, Assistant Director for Housing, GLA
  • Andrew Taylor, Director – Head of Planning, Countryside Properties
  • Councillor Shama Tatler, Lead Member for Regeneration, London Borough of Brent
  • Aktar Choudhury, Operational Director, Regeneration, London Borough of Brent

The meeting will take place on Thursday 31 January at 10.00am in the Chamber, City Hall (The Queen’s Walk, London SE1).

Media and members of the public are invited to attend.

The meeting can also be viewed LIVE via webcast or on our YouTube channel.
