In response to the news that the Government has postponed July’s Transport for London (TfL) bus service review, which it required as a condition of the latest emergency funding settlement, Labour’s London Assembly Transport Spokesperson, Elly Baker AM, said:
“I am glad the Government has listened to the concerns that I and many others have been raising about this ill-timed bus service review and has now pushed it back.
“Going ahead with it now, when we are in the thick of a third wave, would have given a skewed picture of passenger numbers- potentially giving Ministers an excuse to push forward with damaging cuts to London’s bus services.
“Our priority right now should be to take measures to help Londoners feel confident that they can safely use public transport. This is why the Government must back TfL and legally mandate the continued wearing of face masks and social distancing on tubes and buses beyond 19th July”.
