“No sentence will repair the terrible harm done to Sarah Everard, her family and friends.
“It is chilling that Sarah trusted this police officer who then abused that trust absolutely.
“There were already concerns about him before he carried out this evil crime. How is it right that a police officer who had been caught flashing days before was still allowed to carry a warrant card and be on duty?
“The Met must ask what they could have done to prevent this kidnap and murder and how they can address people’s fears about this very serious abuse of police powers being repeated.”
“Women shouldn’t have to be wondering whether to run, or resist arrest in order to keep themselves safe from the people whose job it is to protect them from harm.”
