A new package of measures being proposed by the Mayor and TfL to tackle taxi emissions and switch drivers to new zero emission capable taxis were announced today. The measures include a consultation early next year on a phased reduction in maximum taxi age limits for the dirtiest vehicles from 15 years to 12 years by 2022.
Chair of the London Assembly Environment Committee, Caroline Russell AM, said:
“The Committee values all efforts to clean up London’s dirty air.
“The capital needs a rapid phase-out of polluting diesel taxis, to protect the health of taxi drivers, their passengers and all Londoners.
“But the Mayor needs to ensure the correct infrastructure to support the switch is in place.
“Working with the taxi trade is the only way to encourage a switch to zero emission taxis and we hope this will be possible going forward.”
