In response to the Mayor’s announcement that Transport for London (TfL) will make the wearing of face masks on its network a condition of carriage beyond 19th July, local London Assembly Member, Anne Clarke AM, said:

“This announcement will come as a relief to many people in our community who are rightly concerned about the Government’s approach to ending all legal restrictions next Monday.

“Ministers have been giving out mixed messages on the continued wearing of face masks in indoor settings, such as on public transport, so it is positive to see the Mayor and TfL cut through this to show some leadership on this issue.

“We are still in thick of a third wave and wearing our masks on the bus and tube is one of the best ways we can continue to protect each other.

“We now need to see the Government come forward and make masks a legal requirement on public transport, and at the very least, for other transport operators in London to follow TfL’s lead and make it a condition of carriage”.
